Gray, NSRI Port Elizabeth station commander said: “On Sunday 14 March
at midday NSRI Port Elizabeth were activated by the Transnet National
Ports Authority following a request for assistance from the Municipal
Beach Managers Office reporting a man missing in the surf at Blue
Horizon Bay.
“It appears that while a church group were at the beach during the
morning 3 of it’s members were reportedly swept out to sea.
“Lifeguards rescued two of the church members and requested assistance
from the NSRI to assist them in a search for one male, believed to be
aged in his mid twenties, who remained missing.
“The NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew
joined the search using a rescue
rigid inflatable rubber duck and Police and a Police helicopter joined
the search as well as two jet-ski’s from the Municipal Beach Managers
Office.
“An extensive search has revealed no sign of the missing man who is
presumed to have drowned.
“The matter has been handed over to the SA Police Services who will
continue the search and who have opened an inquest docket.”
