The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus), in collaboration with “We Care”, a division of the Lydenburg Chamber of Commerce, local businesses, stakeholders and community members, launched a series of clean-up initiatives in Lydenburg this past week.

These practical projects focused on restoring basic service delivery, and promoting community involvement and responsibility.

The initiatives focused on, among other things, the area around Estralita School, where residents and organisations worked together to address illegal dumping, poor roads and general decay. The decline serves as clear proof of the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality’s failure to fulfil its responsibilities.

The Freedom Front Plus believes that communities should not silently accept service delivery decline.

The community initiatives demonstrate that when residents, organisations and businesses join forces, it is possible to achieve tangible results.

It also sets the bar high for the Local Municipality by demonstrating how a town should be maintained and kept clean.

The Freedom Front Plus wants to thank every volunteer, teacher, learner, business and organisation that donated resources or their time to restore Lydenburg to its former glory by making it clean and safe.

At the same time, the Freedom Front Plus implores the Municipal Manager, Roy Makwakwa, to accept accountability for the infrastructure decay and restore sustainable service delivery. Communities should not have to bear the burden of poor governance alone.

The Freedom Front Plus will keep collaborating with the community, applying pressure where needed and supporting practical solutions to secure Lydenburg’s future.

FF+ Manifesto on Stronger emphasis on self-determination for minority groups: The FF Plus believes minority groups should have more control over their own affairs.
