Author, actor, and influencer Calico Jonez announces the release of Betrayal, the fifth title in his growing catalog, now available on the Barnes & Noble platform. Subtitled Frenemies Memoirs, Betrayal reimagines vampire lore for the modern streets, exploring predation, power, and survival in contemporary urban spaces.
Betrayal shifts the vampire narrative away from gothic myth and into present-day venues where lust, fear, and violence fuel new kinds of predators. Calico Jonez presents vampires as energy consumers—figures who feed not only on blood but on atmosphere and emotion. Set in crowded clubs, trap houses, and smoky hookah lounges, the book imagines antagonists who wield hypnotic charm, psychic manipulation, and physical prowess. These characters move through human society with style and camouflage: shape-shifting, mind control, enhanced speed and strength, and the unnerving ability to remain undetected even in daylight.
This release follows a series of well-received books from Jonez, including Ladies of Leisure (September 2024), The Addiction: Sex Therapy (February 2024), and the inspirational Choose2Win (June 2023, with a limited edition in July 2023). Betrayal continues Jonez’s interest in blending genre with social observation, using speculative elements to probe themes of trust, deception, and survival in modern communities. The book aims to appeal to readers of urban fantasy, contemporary horror, and character-driven memoir fiction.
“Betrayal is my attempt to give the modern predator a voice and to show how power, desire, and deception shape our streets and social scenes,” says Jonez. “I wanted to write about vampires who reflect real urban dynamics—who can charm a room and disappear into daylight—so readers can see how danger and allure often walk side by side.”
Betrayal is now available for purchase through the Barnes & Noble platform in both digital and print formats. Readers can expect a fast-paced, atmospheric read that pairs chilling speculative concepts with sharp social commentary.
