Chantal Stanfield, and the legendary RJ Benjamin team up again for a cheeky, sweet, funk-inspired, upbeat love song for all! “My Favourite Ice-Cream” is a bubbly, summertime reflection on love that inspires and celebrates, even featuring a flavour-filled rap break. Chantal Stanfield surprises again with clever writing and a catchy hook, with RJ Benjamin creating an instantly infectious sound, perfect for Summer and lovers all over.
“My Favourite Ice-Cream” reveals another ‘fantastical’ side to Stanfield’s artistic prowess as a vocalist and songwriter, celebrating 21 years in the industry, and reminding listeners that she’s more than the familiar face on nationwide TV screens every night on SABC2’s Paradys, where she plays the lead role of Natasha Malgas. RJ Benjamin needs no introduction as a stalwart of the music industry, and he again produces a cohesive yet light and fun track.
MUSIC VIDEO
The music video concept and the song always lived side-by-side in Chantal’s brain. The music video features Chantal as the main character serving soft-serve from a proper old-fashioned, ice-cream truck. It was filmed on one chilly, July, Sunday morning in Joburg, far from Summer, by the incredibly creative Rici Martens.
We see various interactions of love represented in this summertime fantasy – an older, retired White Hetero couple, a middle-aged Gay couple with the cutest dog, a young Black nuclear family. All enjoying and sharing in the positive vibes. There is also another group of totally random suburbanites, who happened to drive passed the shoot location, and jokingly stopped to ask if they could also get ice-cream – their genuine enjoyment added to this unplanned appearance in the video!
Music production and finalisation, and music video, was made possible in part by assistance from a grant via SAMRO Music Creation Support Fund.
