{"id":1000,"date":"2024-10-29T10:12:41","date_gmt":"2024-10-29T08:12:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/myza.co.za\/events\/?p=1000"},"modified":"2024-10-29T10:12:41","modified_gmt":"2024-10-29T08:12:41","slug":"cape-towns-festive-lights-switch-on-2024-launches-new-comedy-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/myza.co.za\/events\/cape-towns-festive-lights-switch-on-2024-launches-new-comedy-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Cape Town\u2019s Festive Lights Switch-On 2024 launches new comedy competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The search is on for a \u2018Hopeful Hero\u2019 who can make Cape Town laugh out loud with R10 000 up for grabs and a live performance at the switch-on event and concert on the Grand Parade on Sunday, 1 December.<\/p>\n<p>The Festive Lights Switch-On, on Adderley Street, happening on 1 December 2024, is going to be brighter, more vibey and funnier than ever.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Cape Town is excited to announce the People of Hope Comedy Competition &#8211; a new addition to this year\u2019s festival line-up that will celebrate the city\u2019s diverse humour and have audiences in stitches.<\/p>\n<p>The competition is open to aspiring comedians of all ages who are ready to bring their best \u2018hopeful humour\u2019 to the stage. A unique take on \u2018people of hope\u2019 could win big \u2013 R10 000 for the first prize, with second and third place receiving R5 000 and R2 000 respectively. The top three also get the opportunity to showcase their talent at the Festive Lights Switch-On event, taking place on the Grand Parade on the first Sunday of December.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This year\u2019s Festive Lights Switch-On is about more than just lights &#8211; it\u2019s about the people of Cape Town. Our people are people of hope and express themselves through humour that shines through the heart of Cape Town. There\u2019s something magical about laughing together &#8211; a shared experience \u2013 and as we Capetonians know how to have a good time, I\u2019m keen to celebrate the talents that make this city so special and meet you all on the Grand Parade for a good chuckle and some excellent entertainment,\u2019 said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to Enter:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Participants must submit a one-minute stand-up comedy video, which creatively reflects the theme \u2018People of Hope.\u2019 Videos must be original, family-friendly, and not contain any offensive content or political and religious themes \u2013 just good, clean fun!<\/p>\n<p>Entries must be submitted via any of the following social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or X (Twitter).<\/p>\n<p>Importantly, entrants need to tag the official Cape Town Festive Lights account (@CTFestiveLights) and use the hashtag #PeopleOfHopeLaugh #CTFestiveLights.
