Moya moves against Morodi

29 March 2026 by Guest

Statement by Ald Cilliers Brink – DA Tshwane Mayoral Candidate:

The Democratic Alliance (DA) notes the removal of ActionSA MMC Morodi, from the Tshwane executive following her alleged involvement in tender corruption.

One burning question remains: what about the tainted, and equally involved Finance MMC and deputy mayor, Eugene ‘Bonzo’ Modise?

It is very telling that Mayor Moya does not act on her deputy, because in fact, she is the deputy. A Mayor in name only.

To quote the Executive Mayor on Morodi’s removal “The Mayoral Committee must, at all times, command public confidence and demonstrate the highest standards of ethical leadership and accountability”.

If that is a position she truly holds, then Bonzo should have been shown the door months ago. He has been implicated in benefitting from security tenders. He has been implicated in benefiting from their R777 million water tanker spending. And the very same companies he claims not to benefit from, has been implicated in the Madlanga Commission.

How much clearer of a picture does the Mayor need?

Opportunity has not been the problem, as the DA has brought a motion to remove him, one that her coalition government voted against.

Evidence has not been the problem, as the Madlanga Commission has shown, and the DA’s criminal case against him now rests with the Hawks.

The problem is that the Mayor does not really believe in clean governance, nor does she believe that the “highest standards of ethical leadership and accountability” needs to be upheld.

Today it is clear that she only believes in staying in power, even if she has to be the deputy to a criminal.
