A5 Sedan – A Model That Blends Modern Design With Premium Proportions

19 August 2025 by Guest

Johannesburg, August 2025  – Audi South Africa is proud to introduce the all-new Audi A5 Sedan. With its refined design, intelligent technology and confident performance, it brings a fresh sense of dynamism to the midsize segment.

“The new Audi A5 enters its third generation, proudly continuing the model’s distinctive design legacy. Elegant, dynamic and unmistakably Audi, it is a truly beautiful vehicle and we cannot wait to share it with our customers,” says Sascha Sauer, Head of Audi South Africa.

Dynamic and muscular exterior design

The exterior of the new Audi A5 Sedan is defined by clean lines, confident proportions and a dynamic presence that reflects its progressive character. With a long wheelbase, large wheels and a low, athletic stance, the design captures the essence of premium performance from every angle.

Viewed from the side, the sporty and compact-looking cabin stretches in a graceful arc toward the rear, flowing into a gently sloping window and finishing at a short, sculpted tailgate with a pronounced spoiler lip. This coupé-like silhouette introduces a new design interpretation to the sedan segment.

At the front, a wider and flatter Singleframe grille with a three-dimensional honeycomb structure is framed by slim, precisely drawn headlights. Together, they create a focused and assertive look. The bumper features an integrated soft nose, allowing the bonnet to sit flush with the front end and giving the car a seamless, modern appearance.

Strong blisters above the front and rear wheel arches reference the iconic Audi Urquattro and add to the car’s confident stance. At the rear, the A5 Sedan combines sculptural design with advanced lighting technology. A continuous, three-dimensionally offset light strip enhances visual width, while the clean lines of the bumper, dark diffuser and high-quality rectangular exhaust trims contribute to its refined yet sporty look.

The result is a striking blend of athleticism and elegance, rooted in Audi’s design DNA and elevated through innovation.

An extensive range of new paint finishes is available for the exterior, including three metallic options: Horizon Blue, Grenadine Red, and Ascari Blue. For those seeking greater individuality, Audi exclusive offers a bespoke colour selection curated to personal preference.

Driver-focused digital cabin

Inside, the Audi A5 Sedan introduces a cabin defined by clarity, technology and tailored comfort. The centrepiece is Audi’s new MMI panoramic display, also known as the “Digital Stage”, comprising a curved 14.5-inch central touchscreen and an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus. These displays are seamlessly integrated to offer a refined user experience, with natural touch responses and customisable layouts.

The new A5 has a configurable head-up display that has been further developed compared to its predecessor. For the first time, drivers now have the option of controlling vehicle and infotainment functions via the head-up display. The new integrated driver assistance display in the head-up display provides a 3D visualization of the driver assistance view. For example, if the system detects other cars, cyclists, pedestrians, buses, or trucks, these are displayed in the head-up display.

Ambient lighting, available with thirty colour options, enhances the atmosphere within the cabin. The soft wrap design feature, which spans across the dashboard and doors, creates a cohesive and open space. Decorative inlays in brushed aluminium, open-pore wood or carbon fibre are available through various interior packages.

An optional 10.9-inch passenger display allows co-drivers to engage with infotainment, navigation and media, while remaining invisible to the driver through privacy shading. The Audi phone box with wireless charging and cooled compartment is available as standard.

Two levels of the iconic Bang & Olufsen 3D sound systems are now available with the new A5. The first comprises 16 loudspeakers and a 16-channel amplifier with a total output of 685 watts, while the second combines a more powerful system with headrest speakers in both front seats to ensure a natural, acoustically precise and impressive sound experience.

Two highly efficient amplifiers are at the heart of the Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System, which drive 20 loudspeakers with 810 watts of power. Four are integrated into the front seat headrests, enabling personal surround sound, personal navigation announcements, and phone calls. Additional loudspeakers in the A-pillar and the mid-range speaker create an incomparable 3D surround sound.

The new infotainment system uses Android Automotive as its operating system. Third party apps, such as YouTube, are available via the Audi Application Store, which is directly integrated into the system and does not require a smartphone.

Audi is also expanding the existing self-learning voice assistant to incorporate Chat GPT. Passengers can activate the assistant as usual with “Hey Audi” or via the push-to-talk button on the steering wheel to ask their questions.

The Audi assistant automatically recognises whether to execute a vehicle function, search for a destination, or, for example, obtain a weather forecast. Only when the Audi system is unable to answer questions, for example, those requiring general knowledge, are they forwarded to ChatGPT. From the driver’s perspective, this happens seamlessly, as all functions are integrated into the Audi assistant.

Panoramic glass sunroof with switchable transparency

A highlight feature in this model is the optional panoramic glass sunroof with segmented switchable transparency. Using advanced polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) technology, this roof adjusts between clear and shaded sections, offering light and heat control while maintaining a seamless connection with the outside environment.

Two tech packages, one connected ecosystem

Customers can tailor their A5 Sedan through two dedicated technology packages:

  • Tech plus includes Matrix LED headlights, Comfort Access, Digital key, 360-degree camera, and various driver assistance systems, including front cross-traffic assist, side assist and exit warning and swerve assist
  • Tech pro builds on the Tech plus package with features such as digital OLED rear lights with selectable light signatures, MMI front passenger display, Steering wheel and Seat heating (front and rear), and S sport suspension with damper control, and adaptive cruise assist plus

These packages offer enhanced functionality, visibility and comfort while simplifying the ordering process for customers.

Refined power and dynamic precision

The new Audi A5 Sedan is powered by two efficient yet dynamic 2.0 TFSI engines:

  • 146kW and 340 Nm, paired with front-wheel drive
  • 200kW and 400 Nm, available with Audi quattro all-wheel drive

Both engines are coupled with a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, delivering smooth and responsive acceleration.

The 200kW quattro model features torque vectoring for improved agility, also available with adaptive damping as part of the Tech pro package. Audi drive select allows the driver to adjust performance characteristics between comfort and dynamic modes.

Four South African derivatives with a strong identity

The Audi A5 Sedan is available in four distinctive South African derivatives:

  1. Audi A5 Sedan TFSI 146 kW S line
  2. Audi A5 Sedan TFSI 146 kW Black Edition
  3. Audi A5 Sedan TFSI 200 kW quattro S line
  4. Audi A5 Sedan TFSI 200 kW quattro Black Edition

Each model is equipped with S line exterior styling as standard. Standard equipment highlights include: LED headlights pro with high beam control, 19-inch wheels with run-flat tyres, S sport suspension, an electric tailgate, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, park assist plus, rear view camera, MMI Navigation plus with Audi connect, 3-zone automatic air-conditioning, and sport seats with leather/artificial leather combination upholstery.

Black Edition variants build on this by adding high-gloss black exterior accents, darkened Audi rings, black mirror housings, a bespoke 19-inch black metallic wheel, red brake calipers and darkened rear windows.

Lighting technology that leads with clarity and safety

Audi’s leadership in lighting continues with available Matrix LED headlights, providing adaptive illumination and dynamic indicators. On Tech Pro models, the second-generation digital OLED rear lights offer up to eight selectable light signatures and include proximity detection and car-to-x communication to enhance roadside awareness and safety in critical moments.

Everyday practicality meets premium versatility

With a length of 4,829mm and a 1,444mm height, the A5 Sedan delivers generous interior space for passengers in both rows. The boot offers 445 litres of capacity, with 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats and a power-operated tailgate fitted as standard. Whether for daily driving or extended journeys, the A5 Sedan offers comfort, flexibility and convenience in equal measure.

Anton Rupert – Dr. Anton Rupert founded the Rembrandt Group in the 1940s. After initially focusing on the tobacco industry (Peter Stuyvesant), his company soon moved into industrials and luxury goods. Rembrandt has since been split into Remgro (an investment company with financial, mining and industrial interests) and Richemont (a Swiss-based luxury goods group). Rupert was also a founding member of the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) in the 1960s. His son Johan has since turned Richemont into one of the largest luxury goods companies in the world.
