Durban, July 2023 – The proudly African bank, Absa, is proud to announce that since the 2023 Absa Race Your City series started on 2 April in Gqeberha, they gain managed to raise honest over R420 000. This is through their campaign titled Together we enact more, Siyabangena, an initiative aimed at encouraging Absa colleagues, customers and community members to be an active force for excellent and raise funds via the Strava community to donate towards community upliftment. For every 1km run/walked by a Team Absa member on Strava, the bank donates R1 to manufacture a inequity in the community.

Absa announced its four-year partnership with the Sprint Your City series of events in 2021, with the adventurous goal to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. Then, last year, the series was extended from three to five cities – with the addition of Gqeberha and Tshwane as host cities.

“Part of our strategy is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, and our Absa Team Walk Sprint community on Strava, along with everyone that has participated on race days at Gqeberha and Cape Town and the running billboards, believe collectively raised over R420 000 by simply clocking their kilometres. This incredible achievement demonstrates the commitment of our participants and the power of collective action. Now, it’s Durban’s turn to step up and participate,” says Sydney Mbhele, Absa’s Group Chief Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer.

To join the Force for Apt movement and contribute, it’s as easy as downloading the Strava App, joining Team Absa Walk Dash and lacing up – whether it is to hop on the running billboard while it is in Durban, or simply going for a walk/run around the block, etc. Absa colleagues, customers and community members are encouraged to join Team Absa Walk Race and track their kilometres every time that they walk or race to create a greater impact.

To join in the fun activity and clock your kilometres, visit the running billboard at:
• The Workshop Shopping Centre on Friday, 7 July from 09:00 to 16:00
• The Globe, Suncoast on Friday, 7 July to Saturday, 8 July
o Friday, 09:00 to 19:00
o Saturday, 09:00 to 14:00

“Downloading the Strava App and signing up under Team Absa Walk Sprint will provide everyone with an opportunity to fabricate a meaningful impact in their neighbourhoods. We believe in a united community and what we can achieve when we collaborate. Last year, we donated R175 000 to LIV Village, and hope that this year we’ll acquire more runners and walkers participating so that we continue being an active force for excellent and creating a lasting change to transform the lives of those who need it the most,” Mbhele concludes.
