Brutal Assault of 14 Year-Old Learner

ActionSA is deeply concerned by the horrific reports of the rape of a 14-year-old learner in Masemola, Ward 28 of the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality.

The post ActionSA Demands Immediate Provincial Health Intervention and Urgent Scholar Safety Reform Following the Brutal Assault of a Learner appeared first on ActionSA.

ActionSA is deeply concerned by the horrific reports of the rape of a 14-year-old learner in Masemola, Ward 28 of the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality. The victim was reportedly abducted at knifepoint in the early hours of the morning while waiting for scholar transport and forced into an abandoned structure where the assault took place.

This tragedy is a devastating indictment of the leadership failure in Limpopo, proving that despite the national disaster declaration on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) in 2025, rural communities remain dangerously exposed due to a systemic lack of proactive safety interventions and reliable, door-to-door scholar transport.

The perpetrator remains at large and poses a significant threat to the community; therefore, ActionA calls upon the South African Police Service (SAPS) to prioritise this case and mobilise all available resources to ensure a swift apprehension.

We urge any community members with information to come forward immediately to ensure justice is served. It is unacceptable that the Department of Education and Law Enforcement continue to fail in their duty to protect vulnerable children, effectively forcing them to choose between their physical safety and their fundamental right to access an education.

In response to this trauma, ActionSA Limpopo demands that the Limpopo Department of Health immediately assign a dedicated team of clinical psychologists to provide comprehensive, long-term mental health support to the victim and her family. Immediate state-funded intervention is a non-negotiable right for survivors of such heinous crimes, and we will not allow the provincial government to neglect its duty of care.

ActionSA stands in full solidarity with the family and will continue to monitor the investigation closely, persisting in our demand that the provincial leadership prioritizes scholar safety reform and rural protection as an absolute priority.

ActionSA Funding: Transparent about private donor funding.
