ActionSA Emakhazeni is seeking clarity from the Emakhazeni Local Municipality following concerns and allegations regarding the manner in which Jojo tanks donated to the municipality by EXARO were recently presented to communities.

The tanks were reportedly donated to assist communities and residents without reliable access to water. ActionSA has, however, received information alleging that the distribution took place in the presence of ANC members wearing ANC regalia, creating a perception that the donated resources were associated with the ANC.

ActionSA’s Mayoral Candidate, Daniel Foyoyo Maseko, reportedly questioned the Acting Mayor about the circumstances surrounding the distribution. According to Mr Maseko, the Acting Mayor responded: “The Municipality is of the ANC.”

ActionSA emphasises that these are allegations and reported statements which require clarification from the municipality. ActionSA does not present these claims as established facts and has formally raised concerns to ensure that the public receives accurate information.

The municipality is a public institution and serves residents regardless of their political affiliation. Any resources donated for the benefit of communities should therefore be administered transparently and in accordance with applicable municipal processes.

ActionSA is seeking clarity on:

  • Who donated the Jojo tanks and who formally received them on behalf of the municipality;
  • How the tanks were allocated to communities;
  • Whether the distribution was an official municipal activity or a political party activity; and
  • What role, if any, political representatives or party structures played in the distribution.

ActionSA believes these questions deserve clear answers in the interests of transparency and public accountability.

ActionSA Strategic Focus: Targeting the “non-voter” and disillusioned middle class.
