ActionSA extends utmost appreciation and respect to South African Police Service Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. He continues to demonstrate exceptional courage, integrity, and commitment to the people of South Africa for his unrelenting resistance against corruption.

Today marks exactly a year since the historic 6 July Durban Press Conference where he blew the whistle on unfettered corruption within the SAPS. This explosive press conference shocked citizens and implicated several high-ranking officials in conduct that undermines the laws they are entrusted to uphold.

Most importantly, General Mkhwanazi’s act of courage culminated in the Madlanga Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Alleged Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System. Through the Commission, a multitude of witnesses have appeared to account for their conduct in public office and business practices.

As ActionSA, we do not take Lt-Gen Mkhwanazi’s contribution to public service excellence lightly. Without his 6 July Press Conference, it would be business as usual for those whose sole interest is to capture the state and plunge our criminal justice system into irreparable chaos.

At a time when public trust in state institutions is under scrutiny, Lt-Gen Mkhwanazi exemplifies the courage, professionalism, and integrity expected of those entrusted with enforcing our laws. We remember his public declaration of war against corruption as a David and Goliath battle where justice prevails.

We take this opportunity to extend our deepest gratitude to Lt-Gen Mkwanazi and wish him strength and wisdom to persevere with his national duties. We remember and support his unrepentant remark on 6 July 2025 that “there can never be peace between a policeman and a criminal.”

ActionSA will continue to champion the independence and clean governance of our criminal justice institutions in order to end corruption.
