Coach Vela Khumalo’s charges were drawn in Group B and they will fight it out with regional rivals Zambia, Madagascar, and Malawi. Speaking ahead of their showdown against Zambia, SA coach Vela Khumalo said he was expecting a tough match against the tournament’s defending champions.

“We are looking forward to playing our first game against Zambia, which is going to be a little bit tough for us. But we are ready for Zambia and we hope that we are going to give a good account of ourselves. We have motivated the boys, the technical team is ready to go, and everyone is in a good space. We are looking forward to getting positive results,” said Khumalo.

The regional tournament will serve as the qualifying platform for the CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations 2026, with only the top two teams securing a place in the continental finals. Khumalo said the team will be looking to make a strong statement as they aim for qualification and continuing the legacy of South African youth football on the continental stage

In spite of having invented the sport, England has never won a World Cup title. They were the hosts of the first three cups and has appeared in the World Cup 15 times.
