Johannesburg: ATG Digital has announced a webinar to help South Africa’s gated access and security sectors unpack the Information Regulator’s Draft Code of Conduct under POPIA.

The Information Regulator has published its Draft Code of Conduct on the Processing of Personal Information at Gated Accesses. In response, ATG Digital is hosting a critical industry webinar on Tuesday, 12 May 2026. The session will help estates, office parks, security providers, and access-controlled environments understand what the proposed framework could mean in practice.

The webinar is presented in partnership with Civitas and led by legal and privacy specialist Carine Marais. It aims to unpack the draft Code in practical, operational terms. It also encourages calm, informed and constructive industry engagement before the public comment deadline on 14 May 2026.

ATG Digital says the industry needs clarity, not panic.

“The proposed Code is part of an ongoing regulatory process — not an immediate compliance crisis. The conversation now is about ensuring the final framework is practical, proportionate and workable across real-world access control environments.”

The webinar will cover:

  • Visitor management and access control under POPIA
  • Biometrics, CCTV and licence plate recognition
  • Consent vs legitimate interest
  • Data retention and deletion obligations
  • Responsibilities of estates, HOAs and security providers
  • Key areas where industry feedback is still needed

ATG Digital has completed a detailed operational and legal review of the draft Code. This was done in conjunction with specialist legal counsel. The goal is to help the industry engage with the regulator in a responsible, constructive manner.
