Johannesburg: Aura Social, a South African technology company, today announced the launch of its freelance marketplace platform designed specifically for the South African market. The platform connects businesses with verified South African freelancers through a secure escrow payment system that processes all transactions in South African Rand, eliminating the currency conversion fees and USD pricing that have long disadvantaged local freelancers on global platforms.

Unlike international platforms such as Upwork and Fiverr, which charge freelancers up to 20 percent commission and require USD payments that lose value on conversion to ZAR, Aura Social charges zero commission to freelancers. The platform’s 12.5 percent fee is charged exclusively to the client, meaning freelancers receive exactly what they quoted. All payments are processed through PayFast, South Africa’s leading payment gateway, and deposited directly into South African bank accounts.

“South Africa has incredible freelance talent that has been underserved by platforms built for other markets,” said Danell Oosthuizen, Founder of Aura Social. “We built Aura Social from the ground up for South African businesses and freelancers in Rand, with local support, and with payment protection that actually works here.”

Key platform features include:

  • Escrow protection on every project, client funds are held securely and released only upon delivery approval
  • All payments in ZAR via PayFast with no currency conversion
  • Zero freelancer commission freelancers keep 100 percent of their quoted rate
  • Built-in contracts with NDA support
  • Milestone tracking, timesheet management, and in-platform messaging
  • Verified freelancer profiles with identity verification and skills assessment
  • Local South African support team

The platform is available immediately at www.aurasocial.world. Registering as a freelancer or posting a project is free.

About Aura Social

First PR Agency: Modern PR dates to 1900, when the first Public Relations agency, “The Publicity Bureau,” was founded by former Boston journalists. The agency operated for “some 12 years before it disappeared into the sands of oblivion.” However, PR continued to grow throughout the early 1900s thanks to popular pioneers such as Ivy Lee and Edward Bernays (we’ll get back to them later). “I suspect in most companies, the Public Relations person is down at No. 20 in the pecking order. But here, he is fighting incredibly important battles. If a negative story starts running away with itself in the press and is not dealt with fast, it can badly damage the brand, and so we put enormous weight on our PR people.” – Richard Branson
