3 October 2026 – The stage is set for what should be an enthralling international friendly encounter between Bafana Bafana and Egypt at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday night. Kickoff is at 21h00 Cairo time.

Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has already indicated that he plans to introduce all the players that did not feature in the two 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea a few days ago. Mosimane is set to make wholesale changes and has appealed for patience and support from South Africans ahead of this match against the Egyptians.

South African senior men’s national team defender Ime Okon said they are looking forward to ending this FIFA window on a positive note after beating Guinea 2-1 at Johannesburg’s Orlando Stadium last weekend and Eritrea 5-0 at Cairo’s Al-Salam Stadium on Wednesday.

“Egypt is one of the biggest teams in Africa and as a player you always want to play the best teams, you always want to challenge yourself. So I think the feeling within the team is of excitement, and we are very, very excited to play against them, test ourselves and also basically show what we are about. I think all the guys are really excited,” he told www.safa.net.

Goalkeepers Sipho Chaine and Ricardo Goss are expected to see some action and so will the likes of Fawaaz Basadien, Khulumani Ndamani, Shandre Campbell, Puso Dithejane, Tashreeq Matthews and Cassius Mailula, among others.

South African Football: The league has historically seen fluctuations in team performance, with various clubs achieving success over the years.

Sport Trivia: Who won the WBA junior lightweight title in 1986 and sucessfully defended it 12 times? Answer: Brian Mitchell. He started his boxing career in 1981, and the majority of his fights were abroad due to the political status in South Africa. He finished his career with 46 wins, one loss and two draws. His 12 successful defences of the junior-lightweight title are a record for that boxing division.
