Bakoven: Massive Response to Ailing Vessel

22 October 2025 by Guest

Bevan Geyser, NSRI Bakoven station commander, said: At 16h39, Sunday, 19 October, NSRI Table Bay and NSRI Bakoven duty crews were activated following reports of a 7 meter local boat taking on water offshore 0.5 nautical miles of Sea Point swimming pool, with 8 crew onboard.

NSRI Table Bay and NSRI Bakoven rescue swimmers responded directly to the scene while NSRI Bakoven crew responded to the NSRI Bakoven station 2 rescue base and launched the NSRI rescue craft Gemini Legend and NSRI Table Bay crew responded to the NSRI Table Bay station 3 rescue base and launched the NSRI rescue craft Spirit of Day and DHL Deliverer.

NSRI rescue swimmers, arriving on the scene, kitted up to enter the water if necessary, monitoring the casualty boat from the shoreline, while the NSRI rescue craft were responding.

TNPA (Transnet National Ports Authority) Port of Table Bay Port Control alerted two local charter boats, in the area at the time, who diverted to go to the assistance of the casualty boat.

The local charter vessel Catamaran Enigma, her skipper and crew, Good Samaritans, arrived on the scene first and took the casualty boat under tow, reporting the 8 local male casualty crew to be safe and out of danger but still in need of rescue assistance.

A second charter vessel arrived on the scene and stood by on the scene until NSRI arrived on the scene.

On NSRI Bakoven’s rescue craft Gemini Legend arriving on the scene we found the charter vessel Enigma had the casualty boat and her 8 crew under tow and out of danger with a second charter boat on the scene standing-by to assist if necessary – 2 NSRI rescue crew were transferred onto the casualty boat, 4 of casualty crew were transferred onto the rescue craft Gemini Legend.

NSRI Table Bay’s rescue craft Spirit of Day and DHL Deliverer arrived on the scene.

The 4 casualty crew, on the NSRI rescue craft Gemini Legend, were brought safely to OPBC (Oceana Power Boat Club).

The towline from the Good Samaritans charter vessel Enigma was released and the tow was taken over by NSRI Table Bay’s rescue craft DHL Deliverer.

The casualty boat was towed to Oceana Power Boat Club, where assisted by NSRI Bakoven’s rescue craft Gemini Legend and the NSRI Table Bay rescue craft Spirit of Day, the casualty boat was moored safely at OPBC and no further assistance was required.

NSRI commend the skipper and crew of the charter boat Enigma, and the skipper and crew of the second charter boat, for their assistance.

A boer went to the appliance store sale and found a bargain. \”I would like to buy this TV,\” hetold the salesman. \”Sorry, we don\’t sell to boere,\” the salesman replied. He hurried home, took a shower, changed his clothes and combed his hair, then came back and again told the salesman \”I would like to buy this TV.\” \”Sorry, we don\’t sell to boere,\” the salesman replied. \”Bliksem, he recognized me,\” he thought. So he went for a complete disguise this time, haircut and new color, shaved off the baard, suit and tie, fake glasses, then waited a few days before he again approached the salesman. \”I would like to buy this TV.\” Sorry, we don\’t sell to boere,\” the salesman replied. Frustrated, he exclaimed \”Jislaaik, man! How do you know I\’m a boer?\”\”Because that\’s a microwave,\” the salesman replied.
