Build KZN better

KwaZulu-Natal’s development aspirations are taking centre stage at Africa’s Biggest Property Management Conference, which is underway at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban. 

The two-day conference, which concludes today, brings firmly into focus the importance of creating resilient and sustainable infrastructure that aligns with the province’s development goals, says KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli.

Hundreds of property industry experts and stakeholders, including property developers, investors, government representatives and infrastructure specialists – all united in their commitment to advancing KwaZulu-Natal’s real estate sector and boosting economic growth – have converged at the Durban Chief Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.

The gathering — launched by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, in partnership with the National and Provincial Departments of Public Works and Infrastructure, and eThekwini Municipality — is being held under the theme: ‘Build KZN Better’. 

The conference aims to foster collaboration, share cutting-edge insights, and explore innovative solutions in property management.

Ntuli said the provincial government aims to build KwaZulu-Natal back stronger than ever before.

“By mobilising experts and stakeholders in the property sector, we can collectively revitalise our urban and rural landscapes, stimulate investment, and generate opportunities for all,” Ntuli said.

Delegates have used the conference to discuss best practices in land use, construction, and property management, while addressing challenges including climate resilience, affordable housing, and inclusive development.

The conference is expected to come up with actionable strategies and partnerships designed to drive long-term growth throughout KwaZulu-Natal and beyond.

As part of plans to turn eThekwini around, the Presidential eThekwini Working Group (PeWG) has been working hard to rebuild the city, as well as reposition it as an investment and tourism attraction.

Since its establishment in April 2024, the PeWG has recorded significant developments in service delivery, business confidence, addressing infrastructure and socio-economic challenges.

According to the PeWG’s progress report, business confidence in the city increased from 38.42% in the first quarter of 2024 to 63.01% in the third quarter of the same year.

To respond to the challenges of the municipality, President Cyril Ramaphosa established the eThekwini Presidential Working Group in April 2024. The PeWG was established to accelerate support from national and provincial government to rebuild the municipality following a number of challenges confronting the metro. – SAnews.gov.za
