Burgess Names Her Squad

Wales Women’s U20’s head coach, Liza Burgess has named a squad of 30 players for the Women’s U20’s Six Nations Summer Series.

The tournament which will take place over three match days at the Centre of Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach, Saturday, July 5th; Friday, July 11th; and Thursday, July 17th, will feature under-20 squads from all six Six Nations unions (England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales), with each team allowed to include up to five under-23 players per matchday squad.

Liza Burgess has chosen Branwen Metcalfe as her captain for the first time and is relishing the challenge that lies ahead for her developing squad, “The fact that we’re hosting the event is really exciting for us.

“Over this last few weeks of training, the girls have progressed really well and benefitted from training against both Scotland and England over consecutive weekends. We’ll be playing Scotland in our second game of the tournament and Ireland and Italy are our other two opponents.

“We’re now in our fourth year of the player pathway development programme and we’re currently in a position where we’ve got a real depth of talent within the squad. The girls have been training really well and we’re setting our expectations high.”

“Branwen has shown exceptional leadership qualities both on and off the field; she is a physical and skilful rugby player and is held in high esteem by players and staff.

“It’s fantastic that the games will be held at Ystrad Mynach. The girls are incredibly excited about playing in front of our home crowd, so I really hope that the Welsh public get behind the team.”

All matches will be streamed live on WRU’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@WRUOfficial/streams) and entry is free to all Wales home games in the 2025 Women’s U20’s Six Nations Summer Series.
