The quiet village of McGregor in the Western Cape will take centre stage on CapeTalk 567 AM as Martin Myers sits down with Steve van Schaik, founder of At The Courtyard bistro + theatre, for a conversation about creativity, music, and building something meaningful in a small town.

The interview forms part of CapeTalk’s “Business of Entertainment” series and explores how Steve and his wife Meg transformed a dream into one of McGregor’s most loved creative spaces.

Founded in 2018, At The Courtyard—located at 44 Voortrekker Street, McGregor—has become a gathering place where food, music, theatre and storytelling meet. What began as a step away from the corporate world has evolved into a cultural hub that reflects the spirit of the village.

Nestled in the valley of the Langeberg Mountains, McGregor is known for its whitewashed cottages, artistic community and slower rhythm of life. Visitors travel from across the Western Cape to experience its charm—and many find themselves drawn to the welcoming courtyard atmosphere Steve and Meg have created.

For Steve, success has little to do with traditional measures.

“Success is creative output,” he says. “If you’re creating something meaningful and connecting with people, that’s what matters.”

The conversation with Martin Myers explores entrepreneurship in the creative industry, the importance of storytelling, and how passion, music and community can shape a place into something memorable.

Since social media drives the news cycle and influences brand perception, it’s no surprise that it maintains a significant (and growing) role in the PR industry.

What constitutes a good manager in this field? He must be knowledgeable in the art with which he is concerned, an impresario, labor negotiator, diplomat, educator, publicity and Public Relations expert, politician, skilled businessman, a social sophisticate, a servant of the community, a tireless leader – becomingly humble before authority – a teacher, a tyrant, and a continuing student of the arts. – John D. Rockefeller
