According to Masizole Mnqasela, various DA members have approached him, since his announcement of his new political party, which is set to be launched on the 15th of July 2023, to sign up as members.
Western Cape Legislature Speaker Masizole Mnqasela terminated his DA party membership on 22 November 2022.
In 2006, Mnqasela worked together with Helen Zille in negotiating with the PAC to join a political pact, that saw the Democratic Alliance winning the City of Cape Town through a multi-party coalition system.
Mnqasela was sworn in as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament on 21 May 2014. For the Fifth Provincial Parliament, he was the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Local Government.
On 22 May 2019, he was elected Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament.
On 28 November 2022, the DA terminated his party membership after he made disparaging comments against the party. He faces allegations of corruption and irregularities.
Mnqasela was previously a Member of Parliament with the Democratic Alliance from 2009 to 2014, the Shadow Minister of Home Affairs, and the country’s third youngest parliamentarian after the African National Congress’s Mduduzi Manana, and the Congress of the People’s Luzelle Adams.
He says, while he is happy and grateful for any member from any political party with a good track record of service delivery to the people of South Africa to join his movement, he does not want people to join to use his party for anything else either than to serve the people of South Africa.
If they have any other intention, they must forget it. I am not having it. For too long people have used political parties to grandstand and to settle old scores and have totally forgotten about the people they are supposed to serve
This new political party will be established for exactly this reason. To serve the people. This is designed to move away from petty politics and to start serving the people of South Africa.
I have been approached by various community activists and Leaders to lead this movement because they are not happy with the direction our country is headed and they are frustrated because there is no viable alternative in our country. They want change and they can no longer tolerate the status quo.
I do not dare disappoint these leaders and the South African people with this new and refreshed mandate I have received. I am eager to continue serving the people of this country.
Those wanting to join, whether from other political parties, or from other walks of life are more than welcome to do so. For once South Africa will have a viable alternative that can take this country forward.
I really think many will be shocked when they see the calibre of Leaders that have already signed up as members. This will all be revealed at the launch on the 15th of next month.
We will not be sharing any additional details about the party yet. Those who want more information must attend the launch.
Also, if you feel you can make a meaningful difference in our country, make contact with us, and join us to build a better South Africa of all people.
Lastly, I want to say that I still notice the DA making disparaging remarks about me. I don’t know what’s the fuss about me. I have made up my mind and I am moving on. I suggest they do the same. Voters hate it when politicians fight among themselves, they want us to fight for the them instead, in-order to improve their material conditions.
This has always been a tactic of the DA. Defame people when they leave their organisation instead of just parting ways peacefully. This is exactly the reason so many of the DA members have decided to leave and join our new party on the 15th of next month.
