Thembelihle informal settlement near Johannesburg won an award in 2008 for taking a stance against xenophobia and living in harmony with immigrants from Lesotho, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
But now anti-immigrant mobs have attacked, threatened and started extorting immigrants.
The community is fighting back, but many immigrants have already fled and those who remain say they feel unsafe.
