JOHANNESBURG: The Garden Route Badgers Women made a strong start to their 2025/26 Hollywoodbets Pro Series campaign with a convincing victory in the Hollywoodbets Pro50 against WSB Western Province Women on Saturday.

Badgers delivered a solid performance with a 75-run win to set the tone for their season. After electing to bat first, the hosts posted 237/9 in 50 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Izel Cilliers (65) and Julia Hoal (50), supported by a steady 36 from skipper, Zintle Kula.

Despite a defiant 66 runs from Dane van Niekerk, Kula, Lucian Swartz, and Nicolien Janse van Rensburg each picked up two wickets as the hosts bowled out the Western Province for 162 in 40 overs.

Province, however, showed why they are the reigning champions on Sunday, claiming a 22-run win in the Hollywoodbets Pro20 to level the weekend results.

Captain, Kula, once again starred with the ball for the Badgers, taking a remarkable 5/21 in four overs, but it was Faye Tunnicliffe’s composed 49 that guided Western Province to 123/8 in their 20 overs.

Badgers struggled to chase down the target, as Kayla Reyneke’s three wickets led the charge for Province, bowling out the hosts for 101, to seal a well-earned victory and some bragging rights in the Western Cape derby.
