Crocworld Adventure & Conservation Centre in Scottburgh continues its establishment as one of KZN South Coast’s leading outdoor adventure destinations with the relaunch of its 1km community trail. The latest addition to an expanding network of nature trails, the 1km loop – and existing 2km track – will host the Ugu Cross Country Championships on Saturday, 25 July, with anyone able to enter.
“We’d like to welcome any and all athletes to sign up for the Ugu Cross Country Championships, which are open to everyone from under-8 competitors to seniors and masters,” noted Nicole Pretorius, Scottburgh Athletics Club Race Committee Chairperson. “This is a great opportunity to test your ability while enjoying the beautiful venue provided by Crocworld.”

The 1km Trail Is Open to Everyone
Designed to welcome everyone from first-time walkers to competitive athletes, the new loop forms part of Crocworld’s vision of creating an accessible outdoor space where fitness enthusiasts and nature lovers can experience the beauty of the KZN South Coast.
Jason Scott of Badger’s Cycling and Sports Centre (CSC) – which has developed the trail network – said the latest addition makes the outdoors more accessible to the community.
“Our goal is to encourage outdoor recreation in nature while creating something the entire community can enjoy,” noted Scott. “The new 1km loop is ideal for cross-country championships such as this one, but it’s also open for public use, giving walkers, runners and families another fantastic route to explore. We want Crocworld to be a place where every member of the family can find an outdoor activity that keeps them active and engaged.”
The expanding trail system has already become a favourite among local walking groups, including the popular Widdies Walkers from Widenham Retirement Village. Led by Sue and Trevor McAlpine, the group regularly explores the Crocworld trails, with attendance continuing to grow as more people discover the routes.
Scott said anyone interested in joining the walking community is welcome: “We’re seeing incredible support from residents, including the Renishaw Hills Walkers. The Widdies Walkers recently attracted record numbers on the trails, and every walk seems to bring even more people. Anyone interested in joining the walks can contact Badger’s CSC and we’ll gladly put them in touch with the group.”
Building an Outdoor Adventure Hub
The new trail adds to an impressive list of outdoor events already hosted at Crocworld, including the KZN Provincial XCO Series, the inaugural Crocworld Trail Run hosted with KZN Trail Running, Cross Country League 8, and the successful Renishaw Solstice Race.
Visitors are also enjoying Badger’s Cycling and Sports Centre, which has opened at the entrance to Crocworld, offering boutique bicycle sales, servicing, accessories and expert advice, alongside the expanding trail network. For those seeking even more adventure, Jikaleza Outdoor Adventures offers exhilarating treetop obstacles and zipline experiences, while Crocworld itself remains home to its famous crocodiles, reptiles, birds, daily animal talks and conservation experiences. Guests can round off their visit at the Fish Eagle Café, renowned for its delicious meals and panoramic Indian Ocean views.
Crocworld also forms part of the 1,300-hectare Renishaw Coastal Precinct (RCP), which consists of lifestyle developments, Renishaw Hills and the newly launched Restilridge Farm Estate. Further plans for the precinct include a private school, hospital, recreational facilities, shopping centre, hotel, and light industrial zone with 80% of the land preserved as conservation space.
