Disgraced EC Judge President Selby Mbenenge to be suspended

Mbenenge has been on special leave since 2023. JSC recently found him guilty of gross misconduct over sexual harassment.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has recommended formal suspension of Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge after finding him guilty of gross misconduct over sexual harassment.
Mbenenge, who was on special leave while the complaint was heard, is challenging the JSC’s finding. He argues that suspension would unfairly embarrass him while the review is pending.
The JSC says suspension is a precautionary step to protect the integrity and public standing of the judiciary, not a punishment.
