Drone Arrest

16 October 2024 by Guest

NORTHERN CAPE – The swift response and exceptional collaboration between Northern Cape and North West SAPS, together with a private drone company, led to the arrest of an armed robber near Taung.

On Tuesday, 15 October 2024, at approximately 14:00, five armed men reportedly robbed a tuck shop in Bonita Park in Hartswater.

A team comprising of Hartswater K9 Unit, Pampierstad Visible Policing and Detectives, and Taung SAPS were mobilised to operationalise information received that the suspects allegedly fled in a red Toyota Corolla in the direction of Taung.

With the assistance of a drone search, one of the suspects, aged 42 years old, was found hiding in the bush and was successfully arrested at approximately 18:00.

The search team, assisted by the Northern Cape SAPS Airwing, is continuing with a search for four suspects who are believed to still be at large.

Police are investigating cases of business robbery, malicious damage to property, and attempted murder.

Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended the inter provincial collaboration together with the community, which led to the arrest of the suspect.

Anyone who has information regarding the incident is urged to report to SAPS at 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS App. All information will be handled confidentially.

Van der Merwe is approached by SANRAL one day who want to build a new highway through his donkey farm. Van is really concerned with how his donkeys can get from one side of the farm to the other without having to cross the highway and risk being injured or killed. He is promised that they will build bridges the highway so that his donkeys can cross under the highway. Van agrees and gives them the go-ahead.

The highway is built and a year later the same rep goes to the farm to go see how Van and his donkeys are. He eventually finds Van under one of these bridges chipping away at the roof of the tunnel with a hammer and chisel.

\”Mnr Van de Merwe, what are you doing damaging the highway bridge?\”

A Priest was seated next to Van Der Merwe on a flight to Brakpan.

After the plane was airborne, drink orders were taken.

Van Der Merwe asked for a Rum and Coke, which was brought and placed before him.

The flight attendant then asked the priest if he would like a drink.

He replied in disgust \”I\’d rather be savagely raped by a dozen whores than let liquor touch my lips.\”

Van Der Merwe then handed his drink back to the attendant and said \”Me too, I didn\’t know we had a choice.\”
