Ekurhuleni police force employed convicted killers, Parliament told

Damning draft report presented to SCOPA lists critical governance and financial failures across five cities

A report to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) found alarming failures in metropolitan municipalities.
Among the findings is that 63 Ekurhuleni metro police officials had serious criminal records, including four convictions for murder and six for robbery, while 114 officials face 173 criminal charges.
Ekurhuleni traffic department lost R2.7-billion in fines during 2024/25 after the municipality cancelled its traffic fine management system, while IT control failures and cyber breaches were estimated to have cost the City another R2.5-billion.
