The first rains of the season have once again revealed just how little the ANC/EFF coalition government in the Ekurhuleni Metro cares about maintaining essential infrastructure such as roads.

Even though the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) has been urging the Metro for years to repair and clean stormwater drains in Kempton Park before the rainy season starts, it never happens, and motorists are left bearing the consequences.

Okkerneut Street in Edleen is a prime example, as motorists have to navigate a road that resembles a river when it rains.

After the first rains, the road surface has sunk even deeper, despite repeated requests for the Metro’s Roads and Water Department to urgently address its poor condition.

The decayed state of road infrastructure in the Metro, particularly in Kempton Park, is not just an inconvenience, but also evidence of a failed government endangering residents’ life daily.

Flooded intersections, damaged vehicles, frequent accidents and traffic congestion have become the norm under the current ANC/EFF administration.

The Freedom Front Plus will keep pressuring the Metro to prioritise infrastructure maintenance and repair damaged roads, such as Okkerneut Street, before tragedy strikes.

Ekurhuleni residents deserve better than a government that has no regard for its people.
