End of an era for car factories in South Africa | SA News


After roughly a century of continental dominance in vehicle manufacturing, South Africa has been dethroned as Africa’s largest vehicle producer, with Morocco becoming the new leader.

The country reached a key annual production target of one million vehicles in early December 2025, an increase of roughly 79% from the 559,645 it produced in the entire 2024.
