5 January 2024 by Alan

The return of EPCR’s tournaments with qualification for the knockout stages on the line will see Ireland’s Chris Busby taking charge of the key Investec Champions Cup, Pool 1 clash between in-form Union Bordeaux-Bègles and Saracens on Sunday week (14 January) following the announcement of the referees for Rounds 3 and 4 of the Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup appointed by a committee chaired by EPCR’s Head of Match Officials, Tony Spreadbury.

The Round 3 meeting of Union Bordeaux-Bègles – one of only three clubs with a maximum 10 points to date – and the reigning Gallagher Premiership champions at Stade Chaban-Delmas will be broadcast live on TNT Sports in the UK and Ireland, on SuperSport in South Africa and on beIN SPORTS in France.

Matthew Carley of England has been appointed for the head-to-head between Stade Toulousain, also with a maximum return from their opening fixtures, and Ulster Rugby at the Kingspan Stadium on Saturday, 13 January, while Italy’s Andrea Piardi will be in the middle the following day when Bath Rugby – who like Stade Toulousain have 10 points in Pool 2 – host Racing 92 at the Recreation Ground.

The two unbeaten clubs in Pool 3, Exeter Chiefs and Northampton Saints, who host Glasgow Warriors and Aviron Bayonnais respectively, will have their Round 3 matches refereed by France’s Pierre Brousset and Mike Adamson of Scotland.

The EPCR Challenge Cup gets under way again on Friday, 12 January and France’s Tual Trainini has been appointed for the Pool 2 meeting of Newcastle Falcons and Benetton Rugby at Kingston Park live on Viaplay in the UK and Ireland, and on beIN SPORTS in France, while Morné Ferreira of South Africa will be in the middle when the Ospreys are up against USAP at Swansea.com stadium also in Pool 2 on the same evening live on S4C in the UK and on beIN SPORTS in France.

The fixture between Pool 1 leaders, the Toyota Cheetahs, and Section Paloise at the NRCA Stadium in Amsterdam will be refereed by Scotland’s Hollie Davidson.
