Johannesburg, South Africa – Audiences are in for a rare and electrifying treat as Tshedi Mholo, the multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, and South African music icon, takes centre stage for a one-night-only performance at the Roodepoort Basement Theatre on Saturday, 31 May 2025. Doors open at 19:00, with the show starting at 19:30. Tickets are R180 and available now on Webtickets.

Tshedi Mholo, celebrated for her powerful vocals and magnetic stage presence, is best known as the voice of the platinum-selling Afro-pop sensation Malaika. Her journey from church choir singer in Boikhutso to national stardom with Malaika is the stuff of South African music legend. Together with Bongani Nchang and the late Jabulani Ndaba, Tshedi helped shape the sound of a generation, with hits like “Destiny” and “2 Bob” becoming anthems that still resonate deeply with audiences across the continent.

Her musical achievements are matched by her accolades: multiple Metro FM Awards, Kora Awards, Channel O Music Video Awards, and South African Music Awards, including Best Afro Pop Album and Best Group. Malaika’s music has graced global stages, from the G8 Summit to the 2010 FIFA World Cup celebrations, and has seen collaborations with international stars.

But Tshedi’s story is more than just chart-topping hits. Her solo career, launched with the acclaimed album Victory in 2013, showcased her versatility and creative evolution, blending the sounds of Africa with her signature warmth and authenticity. Offstage, Tshedi is a respected actress, social activist, and philanthropist, known for her work with UNICEF and her advocacy for women and children’s rights.

This special performance promises to be a journey through Tshedi’s rich discography-revisiting the timeless Malaika classics that defined an era, as well as her more recent solo material. Fans can expect a night filled with nostalgia, soulful melodies, and the kind of uplifting energy that only Tshedi can deliver. With her dynamic band and signature charisma, she will remind audiences why she remains one of South Africa’s most exceptional voices.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the venue, making it the perfect night out for music lovers and fans of South African culture.
