25 June 2026 – Bafana Bafana® fans from around the world gathered in large number in Mexico City, Atlanta and Monterrey to be part of the highly successful Fan Walks that were held ahead the South African senior men’s national team’s FIFA World Cup Group A matches this month.
These dedicated activations were an integral part of the pre-match activities that preceded the games against co-hosts Mexico, Czechia and South Korea, and they were held three hours before kickoff with the respective matchday stadiums as the final destination.
For South Africans, it was a chance to meet old friends and make new ones whether you are based in South Africa or Ex-Pats who have travelled across the world to see Bafana Bafana® play at the FIFA 2026 World Cup. These included the 46 000 tickets that were bought by fans ahead of the three group matches, and also those won by lucky fans during government and sponsor activations. The music and drinks dominated the start of these walks with the sounds of popular songs like Shibobo, Waka Waka, Sista Bethina etc. blaring in the background.
“The diversity of these fans from all walks of life was what gave us the belief that Bafana Bafana® fans can be CEO’s, business owners, petrol attendants, domestic workers and ordinary South Africans who are passionate about their country whether they are football fans or not. This is an expensive tournament for fans, but we as SAFA are encouraged by the fact that we can now offer differentiated packages for fans at home and abroad which is set to result in a commercially sustainable environment led by the fans that is also supported by brands seeking to connect with these fans,” said Errol Madlala, the South African Football Association (SAFA) Commercial & Marketing Manager.

SAFA extended its gratitude towards the three host cities and to FIFA the events that were co-ordinated with the Association’s staff, making these fan walks a huge success. SAFA is looking forward to the FIFA World Cup Last 32 match between Bafana Bafana and Canada in Los Angeles on Sunday, 28 June 2026 where the Fan Walk will resume ahead of the highly anticipated showdown.
