Making its Joburg debut on Sunday, 09 November 2025, at the Marks Park Sports Club, the Boxer Super Run Joburg will feature four start waves tailored to celebrate the diverse abilities of Jozi’s running community: OPEN WAVE, SUPER SOCIAL WAVE, ELITE WOMEN, and ELITE MEN.

While participation in the ELITE WAVES is by invitation only, both the OPEN WAVE and SUPER SOCIAL WAVE welcome all runners who embrace the spirit of the event and align with their personal race-day goals.

“We’re excited to bring the Boxer Super Run to Jozi this November,” says Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing at Boxer Superstores. “Our goal is simple – to welcome every kind of runner to the event. The beauty of the 5km distance lies in its inclusivity: it’s accessible for first-timers, fun for social joggers, and still delivers an exhilarating test for seasoned athletes chasing fast times.”

One route, one distance – uniting elites, social runners, and newcomers in a shared celebration of running. Adding to the appeal, the Boxer Super Run lets participants choose the start wave that best suits their style.

“The OPEN WAVE, starting at 07:00, is perfect for competitive runners outside the elite field,” confirms Pillay. “It’s ideal for club athletes, school teams, or anyone eager to push hard and chase a PB. The SUPER SOCIAL WAVE, starting from 08:00 to 09:30, is all about fun. Here, it’s less about times and more about enjoying the morning with family, friends, and colleagues. We encourage runners to get creative, dress up, and bring the energy – it’s a chance to make memories, not just mileage.”

The day will close off with the ELITE WOMEN’S and ELITE MEN’S WAVES, where South Africa’s finest will go head-to-head in a nail-biting showdown for the titles of King and Queen of the Boxer Super Run – a spectacle not to be missed.

“We can’t wait to see Jozi’s running community rally behind the elites on this brand-new course,” Pillay concludes. “We encourage all Open and Super Social Wave participants to stay, cheer, and witness South Africa’s best in action – you may even see history being made. Get ready to experience the country’s most exciting and social 5km event.”

A strategic combination of paid, earned and owned media is critical to building a strong brand—which has introduced a new overlap between PR and marketing roles. This has also contributed to a need for more data-driven communications.
