Firearms Seized

7 October 2024 by Guest

PARKTOWN – In an effort to deal with the proliferation of firearms in the province, the police have arrested a man and seized firearms and a score of ammunition for different firearms.

On 05 October 2024, members from Provincial Investigative Unit, Benoni TRT and Ekurhuleni Metro Police TRU operationalised information about firearms in Spruitview. The members recovered a 9mm pistol and side covers of a motorbike, all reported stolen during a house breaking in July 2024.

The police further found a rifle, shotgun and a number of different ammunition and explosives. After the suspect was arrested, he led the police to another address where they found another rifle hidden in the roof of the house.

The arrested suspect is due to appear before court on 07 October 2024 for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

On another separate incident, the team recovered 136 rounds of rifles and six magazines at MTN rank and Shell house in Johannesburg. No one was arrested.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana has applauded the team for their good job in recovering the firearms and arresting the suspect. He further thanked the public for their continuous support in the fight against crime by providing tip-offs.
