The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) notes with great concern the latest farm attack in Limpopo, this time on an elderly woman who was attacked in her home in the Georges Valley area outside Tzaneen.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening, 1 October, at approximately 22:00. It is the first attack in the province for the month and follows a previous farm attack on 13 September in Bela-Bela (Warmbaths).

Two attackers allegedly gained access through the roof and overpowered the 85-year-old woman, robbing her of jewellery, Krugerrands and her vehicle. She sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The Tzaneen police are currently investigating the case.

In the September incident in the province, a security guard at a guest farm was stabbed with a knife at approximately 03:00 when he came across burglars. The suspects fled with various household items.

Nationwide, the Rural Safety Statistics Group has already recorded 17 attacks on farms (with no murders) for the month.

The Freedom Front Plus expresses its sympathy to the victims, their families and everyone affected by these traumatic incidents.

No one should have to live in fear in their own home or on their own land.

With the festive season approaching, the Freedom Front Plus requests that communities remain vigilant. Historically, certain forms of opportunistic crime also increase before and during the festive season.

The Freedom Front Plus also encourages residents to review their security plans in good time for the festive season, to keep communication networks active, and to report any suspicious activities immediately.

The party will continue to support stronger rural safety measures, adequate police presence and decisive action against violent crime.

Safety is non-negotiable.

The Freedom Front Plus trusts that the authorities will do everything in their power to track down the perpetrators and bring them before the courts.
