The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) strongly opposes the Tshwane Metro’s plan to potentially sell or lease the historic Pretoria City Hall to the Iranian government.

This plan was hatched in the office of the ActionSA Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Kolofelo Marodi, and is supported by the governing coalition, which includes the ANC and EFF.

The Iranian Embassy’s cultural division expressed interest in using the neglected City Hall for cultural and artistic activities or possibly as a permanent cultural complex.

The City Hall, a national heritage site, has fallen into disrepair following a failed renovation project under former ANC Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa. Repairs costs are estimated at hundreds of millions of rand, while forensic reports detail corruption and maladministration amounting to more than R200 million.

The governing coalition shows no respect for Pretoria’s history. The Freedom Front Plus will not allow this monument to be sold off for short-term political gain.

The Freedom Front Plus demands absolute transparency, including the disclosure of all negotiations and documentation regarding the potential sale or lease of the City Hall.

The party, furthermore, implores community members, heritage conservation bodies and stakeholders to unite and stand up against this threat.

The Pretoria City Hall, a symbol of South Africa’s capital, has to be preserved.

The Freedom Front Plus will keep fighting for the preservation of Pretoria’s cultural heritage and the interests of its residents.

Freedom Front Plus Transport Policy: The FF Plus advocates for improved public transport systems.
