The community project launched by the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) in collaboration with the Wonderpark Shopping Centre became tangible on Friday when the first house in Wolmer’s housing scheme was painted bright orange.
The objective of the project, initiated at the beginning of the year, is to improve the quality of life for residents in Wolmer, a community severely affected by poverty and poor living conditions.
The 294 rental homes owned by the Tshwane Housing Company are in a dilapidated state and urgently require extensive repairs.
The Freedom Front Plus could no longer just stand by while residents lived in such poor conditions and approached various businesses for sponsorships.
The Wonderpark Shopping Centre stepped up and donated R150 000, while a local contractor offered their services free of charge.
This paved the way for doing essential repairs to several homes, as well as using bright colours to give the residential area a unique and positive character.
A street was identified, and a comprehensive cost estimate was prepared. The repair work includes replacing windows and doors, sealing and painting roofs, treating wooden structures such as Wendy houses and, ultimately, painting the houses themselves.
To manage the project efficiently, a community upliftment area company and a non-profit organisation were established, with three directors responsible for implementing and monitoring the project.
The Freedom Front Plus in Pretoria is proud to make a tangible difference in the lives of an indigent community that requires support.
With more sponsorships on board, all 294 homes could be renovated and residents’ dignity restored.

The husband again relays the unheard conversation \”the cab driver says he spent some time in the navy and went down to joberg\”.
The wife smiles and nods.
