Good news about South Africa’s only nuclear power station | SA News


The National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) has granted Eskom a licence to continue operating Unit 2 of the Koeberg nuclear power station for another 20 years.

In a statement on 6 November 2025, NNR chairperson Protas Phili explained that the licence was approved after a rigorous safety assessment.

That confirmed the unit met all regulatory requirements for the period of long-term operation (LTO). Phili also said relevant public representations were considered in the decision-making process.
