The Government of Equatorial Guinea continues to refine its position in the Shefa Gold case, following the line of work established in previous meetings.

On Thursday, November 20th, H.E. Nguema Obiang Mangue presided over a new session at the People’s Palace in Malabo, where the technical and legal progress presented by the commission in charge of the case was reviewed.

During the meeting, the elements of the process were updated, including relevant information about the company’s activities in the country. The committee informed the Vice-President of the new information gathered since the last meeting, which is necessary to complete the overall analysis of the case.

Shefa Gold demands $1 billion in compensation from the Equatoguinean State as part of an international legal process it has initiated. The Government, for its part, is reviewing available documentation and examining various aspects related to the company’s compliance with applicable national and international regulations regarding its activities in the country.

After hearing the reports, the Vice-President asked the committee to continue consolidating the information, strengthen the legal consistency of the case file, and ensure all the necessary elements are in place to guarantee that the State’s position is fully substantiated.

Furthermore, Nguema Obiang Mangue clarified that the work will proceed in a coordinated manner among the institutions involved, in order to ensure that the decisions adopted by the Government protect national interests and strictly adhere to the legal framework. The commission will present an updated report at the next session detailing the progress made and the aspects that are still being finalized.

Voetsek! – Go away! [foot-sak] Usually said with an angry tone when telling someone to go away or get lost. You don’t want to be saying this to a local or worse, if a local says this to you – you’ve really angered them!
