Groot Brak: Man Rescued

Andre Fraser, NSRI Mossel Bay duty coxswain, said: At 12h13, Saturday, 31 January, NSRI Mossel Bay duty crew were activated following eyewitness reports from a bystander, at De Vette Mossel Restaurant, Groot Brak, suspecting a man appearing to be in distress offshore beyond the breakers.

The eyewitness expressed concern after seeing the man in the water far offshore.

NSRI rescue swimmers were dispatched to investigate while NSRI crew responded to our NSRI Mossel Bay station 15 rescue base to prepare our NSRI rescue craft JetRIB to be launched.

The NSRI rescue vehicle, Mossel Bay Fire and Rescue Services and WC Government Health EMS responded.

Mossel Bay Municipal lifeguards were alerted where a lifeguard, nearby to the scene at the time, responded.

The SA Police Services were alerted.

On arrival on the scene NSRI rescue swimmers launched into the surf and recovered the man, age 36, from George, safely to the beach where he was assessed by paramedics and not injured he was released requiring no further assistance.

The eyewitness that raised the alarm is commended. The swift response by NSRI, lifeguards and the emergency services is commended.
