Johannesburg, South Africa, 4 March 2025: St. George’s University (SGU) School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies, has received official recognition from the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), with the approval valid for three years, until October 2027. This designation allows SGU graduates from South Africa to return to the country and practice medicine upon successfully passing the required examination and submitting the necessary documentation to the HPCSA.

Marie-Claude Svaldi, Director of International Government Relations at SGU, welcomed the recognition, stating “This recognition from the HPCSA underscores our commitment to equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed for a successful medical career. With a strong academic foundation and extensive clinical exposure, our graduates are well-prepared to meet healthcare needs in South Africa and beyond.”

SGU is dedicated to preparing future physicians through rigorous academic training and hands-on clinical experience. The university offers a Four-Year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, as well as Five-, Six-, and Seven-Year MD tracks, allowing students from different educational backgrounds to pursue a career in medicine.
The School of Medicine maintains an extensive network of over 75 affiliated hospitals and clinical sites across the United States and the United Kingdom, providing students with valuable training opportunities in diverse healthcare settings. This exposure allows them to gain practical experience and develop a global perspective on patient care.

This approval by the HPCSA opens new opportunities for South African students considering an international medical education, ensuring they have the opportunity to return home and contribute to strengthening the country’s healthcare system.

As part of its long-term commitment to supporting South African students, SGU fully intends to maintain its recognition through a timely renewal process beyond October 2027. This ensures that future SGU graduates will continue to have the opportunity to return home and contribute to strengthening South Africa’s healthcare system.

For more information on the MD program and tracks available through St. George’s University School of Medicine, visit SGU’s website.

It doesn\’t matter what word we use, if it has the same content, it will be treated in the same way. There are other words – there\’s \”womanist,\” there\’s \”mujerista,\” there\’s \”women\’s liberationist\” – all mean the same thing and they get the same ridicule. I think we just need to choose what word we feel comfortable with that says women are full human beings, and whatever that word is, it will get a lot of opposition. But it will also attract a lot of support. But this is a revolution, not a Public Relations movement. – Gloria Steinem

We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as Public Relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum. – Aiden Wilson Tozer

The importance of Public Relations can be felt in every working field. In this context, Alvin Adams, the retired American professional basketball player quotes, “Public relations are a key component of any operation in this day of instant communications and rightly inquisitive citizens.”
