Healy Pens One-Year Extension

Edinburgh Rugby is pleased to confirm Scotland international stand-off Ben Healy has signed a one-year contract extension.

Healy, 25, joined Edinburgh Rugby from Munster ahead of the 2023/24 campaign and made an immediate impact, starting in all 23 fixtures during his debut season, amassing 218 points.

He has featured in 14 games this season and – after recently recovering from a knee injury – has returned to contention for the crucial final stages of the campaign, with Edinburgh Rugby vying for a place in the URC playoffs and a spot in the EPCR Challenge Cup semi-finals, starting with this Saturday’s vital quarter-final against Vodacom Bulls at Hive Stadium.

On extending his stay in Edinburgh, Healy said: “I’ve loved my time at Edinburgh Rugby so far and I’m really happy to extend my stay for another year. I love the city and I feel like I’ve developed as a player since joining from Munster. I still feel like I’ve got so much more to give, and I’m determined to play a big role in what promises to be an exciting end to the campaign.”

A product of Glenstal Abbey School and the Munster Academy, Healy made his professional debut against Edinburgh Rugby in November 2019, scoring 11 points in an 18-16 defeat to the capital side.

He then played a crucial role in Munster’s 2022/23 BKT United Rugby Championship victory, starting in the semi-final win over Leinster and appearing from the bench in the final against DHL Stormers in Cape Town.

Healy made his Edinburgh Rugby debut against Dragons in October 2023, becoming player #1322 to represent the capital club.

Qualifying for Scotland through his grandparents, Healy made his international debut in the 2023 Guinness Six Nations against Italy. He also represented Scotland at Rugby World Cup 2023, delivering a standout performance against Romania. To date, he has earned 10 caps for Scotland.

Edinburgh Rugby Head Coach Sean Everitt praised Healy’s impact and potential.

He said: “Ben has been a fantastic addition to the squad since joining in 2023. His abilities and experience have been invaluable. He’s still a young player with a lot of potential and we believe there’s much more to come from him.

“This extension solidifies our squad. Ben’s presence and progress are integral to our success, and we’re thrilled he’ll be part of our journey for another year.”
