Nicole de Klerk and Alexandra Candler captivated attention at the Hollywoodbets Dolphins Star Awards on Tuesday, 18 March 2025. Held at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium, the event recognised both individual accomplishments and team successes from September 2023 to December 2024.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies etched their name in history during the 2023/24 season, securing their first-ever trophy – the inaugural CSA Women’s One Day Cup. Standout performances from players like Nicole de Klerk and Alexandra Candler were instrumental in their historic triumph, showcasing their skill and determination throughout the season.

Nicole walked away with three individual awards, her highlights including a fiery unbeaten 72 off 41 balls in the Pro20 clash against the Titans and a remarkable 96 off 81 balls in the Pro50 match against the Lions. Her fearless performances solidified her status as a key player for the Dolphins Ladies.

Alexandra earned two awards for her calm and calculated batting performances. Her standout innings were an unbeaten 104 off 154 balls against the Lions in the Pro50 and a gritty 89 in the 2023/24 season. She also ended the 2024 Pro50 season as the competition’s top scorer, with 382 runs at an average of 42.44.

On the men’s side, Prenelan Subrayen stood out as a standout performer, securing two awards, including one for his remarkable 10-wicket haul against Western Province in the CSA 4-Day Cup. He was the joint-top wicket-taker in the competition, with 25 scalps to his name, averaging 19.20. Meanwhile, Bryce Parsons dominated with three awards, showcasing his explosive batting with a career-best 191 against North West and a stunning 102 not out of just 48 balls in the T20 Challenge.

Other stars recognised during the awards included Nonkululeko Mlaba, Kiara Fisher, Zintle Mali, Jon-Jon Smuts, Jason Smith, Marques Ackerman, Sarel Erwee, Tshepang Dithole, Slade van Staden, and Daryn Dupavillon.

A special congratulations the Hollywoodbets Dolphins Men for being crowned One Day Cup champions for the 2024/2025 season after claiming a four wicket win over Goldrush Boland. It was a memorable win for the Dolphins who won their first 50-over title since they shared the honours with the Lions in the 2020/2021 season.

Hollywoodbets, South Africa’s community-focused betting operator and proud sponsor of the KZN Cricket Union, has consistently recognised outstanding player performances. This year, both the Dolphins Ladies and Men’s teams were each awarded R250,000 for their exceptional achievement.

Devin Heffer, Hollywoodbets Brand and Communications Manager said, “The Star Awards have always been a highlight of the cricketing season for us at Hollywoodbets, as they allow us to celebrate the outstanding performances of players and teams on the pitch. These achievements inspire future greatness, and we look forward to recognising even more centuries, five-wicket hauls, and trophies from our Hollywoodbets Dolphins men and ladies.”

A good rule of thumb is as follows: If the numbers come from somebody wearing a tie (Wall Street economist or analyst, industry Public Relations department, captive think tank academic and so on), you ought to be very skeptical. By design messages from these people are intended to move markets, move merchandise and/or move public policy and are not a comment on the state of the physical universe. – Nassim Nicholas Taleb

PR doesn\’t always have the best rep when it comes to ethics. Some people, because of bad things that they\’ve done in the past, have even been called propagandists. But there\’s a big ethical difference between real PR and simple propaganda, and here it is: PR is always solidly rooted in fact. PR is part of the good fight, as the wise people quoted below have recognized.
