England and Liverpool football legend, Michael Owen, has strengthened his ties with South African sport after being appointed as the newest Brand Ambassador for leading sports betting and entertainment brand, Hollywoodbets.

Hollywoodbets, deeply rooted in horse racing and major sports, boasts the “Purple Family” — a team driving its promotional and community initiatives. International star Michael Owen now joins a homegrown lineup that includes Anthony Delpech (horse racing); Eben & Anlia Etzebeth, Makazole Mapimpi, and Odwa & Akona Ndungane (rugby); Vernon Philander and Keshav Maharaj (cricket); and football figures Carol Tshabalala, Robert Marawa, Teko Modise, as well as legends Jerry Sikhosana and Brian Baloyi.

Hollywoodbets is also well known for its deep-rooted involvement in horse racing, most notably as the title sponsor of the Hollywoodbets Durban July Handicap, the crown jewel of South African horse racing.

Beyond his storied football career, Owen is a passionate and established figure in the horse racing world as the owner and operator of Manor House Stables and racing club, making him a familiar presence at major racing events globally. His involvement enhances the event’s international appeal, drawing interest from football fans, racing enthusiasts and global media alike.

Owen’s reputation for professionalism and respect, aligns strongly with Hollywoodbets’ commitment to integrity and responsible engagement in sport. His playing style, discipline record as a player, and post-football career as a renowned pundit, racing owner and now brand ambassador have cemented his standing as an esteemed figure in the sporting world.

Michael Owen said. “I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as an Ambassador for Hollywoodbets and I’m really looking forward to working with their team on a whole raft of exciting new initiatives. With the global football tournament taking place this Summer and with all the big horse racing festivals including the Hollywoodbets Durban July still to come, I’m certain we’re going to have a whole lot of fun this year, and I can’t wait to get started!”

Owen’s international profile is expected to further elevate Hollywoodbets’ visibility across multiple sporting codes, expanding its reach beyond racing while supporting its leadership within the betting and sporting entertainment landscape.

This partnership marks another milestone in Hollywoodbets’ strategy to collaborate with globally respected sports personalities who embody excellence, integrity, and a true passion for sport.

Devin Heffer, Brand and Communications Manager for Hollywoodbets said. “We’re incredibly excited to welcome Michael Owen to the Hollywoodbets Family. We align ourselves with champions, and Michael’s achievements speak for themselves — from being the last English footballer to win the Ballon d’Or and claiming multiple Golden Boots, to his Grade 1 success in horse racing as an owner and breeder. His passion for football and racing reflects two sports that sit at the heart of Hollywoodbets, making this a natural and exciting partnership as we continue to grow these sports and the Purple brand.”
