Farmers saw it coming but they couldn’t prevent it

We are in the midst of the worst foot and mouth disease epidemic in South Africa’s history.
The disease has hit cattle farms across the country, making animals sick and causing huge financial losses and emotional distress.
The epidemic exposes how the South African state has neglected its duties, and how farming communities have come together to fill the gaps.
