Electric mobility is quickly reshaping South Africa’s urban logistics sector as charging networks expand, vehicle safety improves, and intelligent trip-planning tools optimise last-mile delivery.

Paul Plummer, Chief Commercial Officer and co-founder of Everlectric, says electric vehicles (EVs) are increasingly becoming the preferred choice for logistics operators. “As cities grow denser and delivery volumes rise, EVs offer quieter, cleaner and more affordable fleet performance. Infrastructure and technology have reached a point where electric logistics is not just viable but advantageous.”

Growing charging networks support fleet efficiency
On-site customised charging hubs and strategically placed public chargers are enabling smoother fleet rotations, reduced downtime, and predictable charging schedules for urban delivery operators.

Advanced EV safety improves city operations
Modern EVs offer enhanced safety features valuable for dense urban environments, including regenerative braking, improved stability, driver-assist technologies, and advanced battery management systems – reducing accident risk and improving driver confidence.

Smart trip planning optimises delivery routes
Real-time energy analytics, automated and monitored route mapping, and software that tracks charger availability now allow logistics operators to plan efficient delivery runs, align charging with downtime, and avoid range-related delays.

“Electric mobility gives logistics operators a competitive edge, lower energy costs, reduced maintenance, and improved safety. As infrastructure strengthens, EVs will increasingly dominate urban delivery fleets.”says Plummer.

About Everlectric
Everlectric is South Africa’s first commercial electric vehicle leasing company, providing EVs, charging infrastructure, and innovative IOT solutions that help businesses transition their fleets from fuel to clean energy. Everlectric utilizes the Everlectric Cloud, a fleet-focused EV charging and operations platform that optimises when and how vehicles charge to take advantage of time-of-use electricity pricing, while providing live monitoring and active management of both DC chargers and on-vehicle systems. The service schedules charging dynamically controls charger loads, and sends real-time alerts and interventions so fleet vehicles maintain required state-of-charge and never run out of range during operations. Built-in reporting, telematics integration and APIs deliver measurable cost savings, higher uptime and simplified daily fleet workflow management.
