HSBC SVNS Series to Debut in New York

20 November 2025 by Guest

World Rugby and USA Rugby, in partnership with TEG Rugby Live, have announced New York as the host of the HSBC SVNS series leg in the United States. From 14-15 March, 2026, the world’s premier sevens competition will take centre stage at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

The announcement comes as anticipation builds ahead of the new-look HSBC SVNS 2026 series kicking off in Dubai on 29-30 November. With star power, gender equity and global representation to the fore, across the season the world’s top eight men’s and women’s teams will showcase the skill, speed, and intensity of Rugby’s Olympic discipline, featuring the fittest and fastest rugby athletes on the planet.

An iconic destination for HSBC SVNS, New York will provide a fitting backdrop for the final round of the regular season, ahead of the HSBC World Championships, which takes place in Hong Kong, Valladolid (Spain) and Bordeaux (France).

With World Rugby committed to growing rugby’s audience share in strategically important cities on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and historic men’s and women’s Rugby World Cups in the US in 2031 and 2033 respectively, the selection of New York represents another golden opportunity to see the stars of sevens playing the sport’s most dynamic and rapid format.

Across the country, the sport’s popularity is surging, drawing record-breaking crowds to marquee matches such as Ireland v New Zealand at Chicago’s Soldier Field, USA v England in Washington, D.C. and the Women’s USA Eagles showdown against Canada in Kansas City.

As rugby builds momentum toward LA2028, SVNS remains central to shaping the sport’s future. The series has already propelled more than 50 women’s players onto the global stage at Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, establishing itself as a launchpad for rugby’s brightest stars and the next generation of Olympians such as Ilona Maher and HSBC SVNS Rookie of the Year 2025, Nia Toliver.

The Sports Illustrated Stadium, home to Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls and the National Women’s Soccer League’s Gotham FC, is set to welcome SVNS rugby to its pitch for the first time. With a 25,000-seat capacity and an intimate stadium design, fans will feel the roar of the crowd and the intensity of the action from just feet away from the pitch, making every try an entertaining experience.

HSBC SVNS New York promises to be more than a game; it’s an unforgettable festival of rugby where fans can witness every thrilling moment on the pitch and enjoy the unmatched energy of the city that never sleeps.

The game showcases the physical and skilful prowess of some of the world’s most impressive rugby athletes in a two-day festival of vibrant celebration and entertainment.

World Rugby Chief Executive Alan Gilpin said: “We are thrilled to bring the HSBC SVNS series to New York, one of the world’s most iconic cities, for the first time. The city’s energy and the passion of U.S. rugby fans make this the perfect stage for our athletes to showcase the speed, skill, and energy of sevens rugby.

“We look forward to creating an unforgettable experience for fans, players, and the broader rugby community as we continue to grow the sport in the United States.”

USA Rugby Chief Executive Bill Goren added: “The New York City and tri-state area is a truly fitting host for HSBC SVNS. New York is an iconic home to so many global cultures, it’s a perfect backdrop for the most elite athletes and fans from each corner of the world to come together around rugby.

“With many storied clubs and institutions based in the tri-state area, we’re thrilled for our USA Rugby community to host this special event and see HSBC SVNS continue to grow in the United States.”

TEG Rugby Live Managing Director Stephen Cottrell said: “We’re incredibly excited to bring the HSBC SVNS Series to New York. Working with World Rugby to grow the game in the United States has been a fantastic endeavour, and we’re delighted to take the next step in that partnership by bringing the HSBC SVNS to the east coast, and to one of the world’s greatest cities.”
Tickets on sale

USA Women’s Sevens Eagle and New Yorker, Su Adegoke shared her excitement about the news: “I’m speechless! New York and sevens are the same… fast paced, intense, and everyone brings their own style. As a NYC native, getting to see this happen feels unreal. I would have never seen this coming! My dream was to make it onto an SVNS Series stop, and now the SVNS Series stop is coming to me.

“Fans should be excited to experience the city that never sleeps! The late-night chopped cheese, street and subway performers, pizza, Times Square, the nightlife, and especially the bodegas!”

Tickets for HSBC SVNS New York will go on sale on Thursday 4 December for limited club seats and two-day passes, with single day tickets going on sale in January.

South Africa’s domestic rugby competition, called the Currie Cup, dates back to 1891 and is one of the oldest rugby competitions in the world. The competition features South African provincial teams and is named after the British colonial administrator Sir Donald Currie, who donated the trophy.
