In Labour? Stop a Cop

30 September 2026 by Guest

The vigilance of Sergeant Jo-Ann Benn attached to the Knysna police ensured that a baby girl was safely delivered after she and her colleagues responded to a distressed call of a grandmother.

On Sunday, 27 September 2026 at about 02:20, Knysna Crime Prevention Unit members conducted crime combatting patrols in White Location, Knysna when the vehicle was stopped by a woman. The mother of the pregnant woman requested police to contact the ambulance but also indicated the urgency. The members immediately responded and accompanied the concerned grandmother to her house. On arrival at the residence the members found the woman who was unaware that she was already in labour. Sergeant Benn swiftly secured the area with towels and calmed the mom while she guided her with the birth of a beautiful girl. The members waited for the arrival of paramedics, handed over the patients and continued with normal duties.

They were discharged from hospital on Monday, 28 September 2026.

Western Cape police management had nothing but praise for the members who went beyond their normal duties with the birth of the girl.
