Injured Hiker Evacuated From Robberg Nature Reserve Hiking Trail

19 October 2026 by Guest

John Bozman, NSRI Plettenberg Bay station coxswain, said: At 14h03, Saturday, 17 October, NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty crew were activated following a request for medical assistance from a group of hikers reporting a female, in their group, suffering an injury and unable to continue on the walk.

They indicated that they were in the vicinity of the Fountain Shack on the Robberg Nature Reserve hiking trail.

Our duty crew responded to our NSRI Plettenberg Bay station 14 rescue base where the NSRI rescue craft The Courtenay’s Rescuer and Rescue Ray were launched.

On our NSRI rescue craft arrival at Robberg Nature Reserve, on the Wild Side, NSRI rescue swimmers and our NSRI station doctor, with medical equipment, were deployed into the water at The Point and they reached the shore and hiked to the hiking party nearby.

On arrival on the scene medical treatment was commenced to the 56 year old female, from Johannesburg, for an injury that prevented her from being able to continue walking.

The patient was stabilised by our NSRI station doctor, assisted by our NSRI medics, then assisted by our rescue crew she was moved to the shoreline where we secured her into our floating stretcher and our NSRI rescue swimmers floated her out to the waiting rescue craft.

The patient was taken safely onboard our rescue craft. She was brought to our NSRI rescue base aboard the rescue craft.

The remaining fellow hiking party hiked to the car park without incident.

A Medlife ambulance had been activated and was standing by at our NSRI rescue base.

The patient, in a stable condition, was taken into the care of paramedics and transported to hospital by ambulance.

The patient is expected to make a full recovery.

The rescue operation completed at 15h48.

A baby was born in South Africa. The village was very poor, and the makeshift hospital didn\’t have some necessary equipment.. such as scales.

The father however, was desperate to know the newborn baby\’s weight. After quite a bit of asking around, the hospital\’s chairman came up with an idea.

\”Five miles west, there\’s a butcher shop. The owner deals with meat, he should have a rather precise scale. You could just put your baby on the meat scale, and the weight reading you\’ll get should be pretty accurate.\”

And so the father departed westward. After much walking, with his newborn child cardled safely in his arms, he finally arrived at the butcher shop. He explained his dilemma to the shop owner, to witch the latter replied:

\”Don\’t worry, friend. It\’s not even a problem, I\’ll check it for you, free of charge.\” And so he took the child to the back, where the scale was located.

The father heard rumbling noises, and some scraping.. About a minute later the butcher came back.

\”About three pounds boneless\” He said.

Did you knowthis about South Africa? South Africa celebrates its annual Heritage Day on 24 September. On this day, South Africans get together to celebrate their diverse cultures, traditions and beliefs. You’ll most likely find people enjoying a braai (barbecue) and dressed in traditional garb.
