Swapping your SASSA Gold Card for the new Postbank Black Card is a quick, straightforward, and completely free process.

Below is the step-by-step guide on how and where to make the exchange:

1. WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

Required: Your original green barcoded SA ID book, Smart ID card, or Temporary ID certificate.

Optional: Your old Gold Card (if you still have it). (If you lost your Gold Card, you do not need to worry—Postbank can verify your identity and issue the Black Card without it).

Not Required: Proof of residence, bank statements, or fees.

2. WHERE TO SWAP YOUR CARD

You can complete the card exchange in person at any of the following locations:

Participating Retailers: Postbank dedicated service points located inside selected branches of Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Boxer, Pick n Pay, and SPAR. Look for the Postbank desk or banner (usually near customer services).

Postbank / Post Office Branches: Any operating Postbank location.

Find your nearest site: Dial *120*355# from your cellphone. This USSD code works on all local networks to send you an SMS with your nearest active card swap location.

3. STEP-BY-STEP SWAP PROCESS

Visit your chosen Postbank service point in person.

Present your original South African ID to the Postbank official.

The official will verify your details on the system, issue your new Postbank Black Card, and set your PIN.

Your new card is activated immediately, and any remaining funds or future grant payouts automatically transfer over.

4. IMPORTANT SAFETY & HELPLINE TIPS

It is 100% Free: You should never pay any fee to receive your new card. If anyone demands money, report it immediately to Postbank or the SASSA Fraud line.

Protect Your PIN: Postbank officials will never ask you for your PIN or one-time password (OTP).

Go to Postbank, Not SASSA Offices: SASSA branch offices do not issue or replace Postbank cards—you must visit a Postbank desk at participating retailers or Postbank service points.

If you need further help or phone assistance, you can call the Postbank Toll-Free Helpline at 0800 53 54 55.
