Kenya’s Daisilah Jerono celebrated her South African racing debut in style, claiming gold at the Totalsports Women’s Race Cape Town in 31:29, as she joined thousands of women in celebrating National Women’s Day on Sunday, 09 August 2026.

Currently ranked No. 7 in the world for the half marathon in 2026, following her impressive 1:05:21 performance in Berlin, Jerono is also the second-fastest Kenyan over the distance this year.

With the goal of bettering her personal best, Jerono achieved just that while claiming the top spot on the podium.

“The race was tough. It was windy, with a few ups and downs, but I am happy to have run today,” says Jerono. “This is my first time in South Africa. I didn’t come with the idea of winning; I came to see where I am in my training. The runners were so cheerful, and I really liked how they cheered for us. I am so happy to win today. I was not expecting it; it’s by God’s grace. God willing, maybe I’ll come back next year.”

Faith Cherono (Kenya) came in second, while Neheng Khatala (Lesotho) finished third.

The 2026 Totalsports Women’s Race Cape Town attracted 10 000 entrants, bringing women of all ages and abilities together on National Women’s Day to celebrate women, fitness and community while supporting PinkDrive.

Reflecting on a memorable day of racing, Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports, praised both the elite performances and the incredible spirit shown by thousands of participants.

“Congratulations to Daisilah Jerono on a truly outstanding performance. The standard of elite racing at this year’s Totalsports Women’s Race Cape Town was exceptional, with an exciting display of talent and determination from start to finish,” says Meyer. “It was equally inspiring to see thousands of women take to the streets to celebrate Women’s Month, support PinkDrive and embrace the spirit of this iconic event. We now look forward to taking the celebration to Joburg on 16 August, where we’ll bring another unforgettable chapter to what has already been an incredible Women’s Month, following two fantastic events in Durban and Cape Town.”

Nikki Crous, Head of Marketing at Totalsports, thanked everyone who contributed to another memorable edition of the Totalsports Women’s Race Cape Town.

“The Totalsports Women’s Race Cape Town once again showcased the incredible power of women coming together to celebrate fitness, friendship and purpose,” says Crous. “It was inspiring to see thousands of women fill the streets of the Mother City, creating an unforgettable atmosphere while supporting the important work of PinkDrive. A heartfelt thank you to every participant, volunteer, partner and supporter who helped make the day such a memorable success.”
